First Impressions

Before touring The Roundhouse, most of my impression of the venue came from photographs of weddings I'd seen online. I expected a beautiful industrial venue with a nice town nearby, but what surprised me most was just how much possibility the space actually holds.

Walking into the reception room, I was immediately struck by how bright, clean, and open it felt. Rather than competing with a couple's wedding vision, the space almost disappears into the background in the best possible way. One thing that impressed me most was the natural flow of the property.

Guests arrive, transition into the ceremony, move effortlessly into cocktail hour, and then into the reception without ever feeling like they're being shuffled from place to place. The venue also offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony options, making it a flexible choice throughout every season in the Hudson Valley.

Another feature I really appreciated was how seamlessly everything works together. With the Roundhouse Hotel and Roundhouse Restaurant located just steps away, couples and their guests can comfortably spend the entire wedding weekend together without constantly traveling between locations. That's such a gift for guests coming from out of town and makes the overall experience feel much more relaxed.

Although the property combines historic architecture with modern updates and industrial design, nothing feels disconnected. The upper level is light-filled and contemporary, the ceremony spaces embrace nature, and the reception hall provides a gorgeous backdrop of Fishkill Creek that can easily transform to fit almost any design aesthetic.

What Stood Out Most

The biggest surprise of my visit wasn't necessarily the venue itself, but the people caring for it.

During my tour I learned more about the ownership team's ongoing commitment to improving the guest experience, and I was genuinely impressed to see that they were actively implementing new ideas while I was there. One example was a new cooling strategy they were testing shading the glass windowed reception space to ensure wedding guests remained comfortable during warm summer celebrations.

For a historic property, that level of intentional care feels incredibly refreshing. Rather than simply preserving an old building, they seem committed to continually asking, "How can we make this experience even better?"

That mindset says a lot about how much pride they take in the venue.

Little details reinforced that feeling throughout the propert from the carefully curated artwork displayed upstairs to the thoughtful layout that keeps guests comfortable throughout their stay.

Why I Think It Works So Well for Weddings

One of my favorite discoveries during the tour was the ceremony space adjacent to the waterfall.

It's tucked just around the corner, making it feel almost like a hidden surprise. Standing there, I immediately understood why so many couples choose to get married here. The waterfall creates a dramatic yet peaceful backdrop that feels unexpectedly secluded despite being right in the heart of Beacon.

I think couples with a strong design vision will especially appreciate The Roundhouse.

Unlike venues with a very defined architectural personality, this space allows florals, lighting, rentals, and personal details to completely transform the atmosphere. Whether your style leans timeless, modern, colorful, editorial, or understated, I think this venue gives couples an incredible amount of creative freedom.

Why It Excites Me as a Filmmaker

As a filmmaker, I immediately started picturing portraits along the waterfall path. The movement of the water, the surrounding greenery, and the historic stone architecture create beautiful opportunities without requiring couples to travel far from their celebration.

I also found myself imagining something a little different than my usual style.

The exquisitely designed hotel rooms and Roundhouse Restaurant would be incredible spaces to experiment with more editorial, flash-inspired imagery and video. Between those interiors and the wonderful wedding spaces, there are so many opportunities to blend documentary storytelling with a more fashion-forward aesthetic.

Even beyond the venue itself, Beacon offers wonderful portrait locations with historic streets, independent shops, and beautiful architecture just a short walk away.

Who I Think Will Love The Roundhouse

I think The Roundhouse is an especially wonderful fit for couples who already have a clear creative vision for their wedding day. If you love designing an experience that feels distinctly your own, this venue gives you the flexibility to bring almost any aesthetic to life while still offering the convenience of an all-in-one wedding weekend destination.

It's also an excellent choice for couples hoping to leave New York City without venturing too far into the countryside. You still get beautiful outdoor spaces, like a romantic waterfall, and the charm of the Hudson Valley while still enjoying modern conveniences, nearby dining experiences, boutique shopping, and on-site accommodations.

If your heart is set on sweeping mountain vistas and sprawling resort properties, another Hudson Valley venue may better match that vision. But if you're someone who appreciates thoughtful design, walkability, and a wedding weekend centered around great food, art, and community, The Roundhouse offers something uniquely its own.

Several days after my visit, what I kept thinking about wasn't just the venue, but it was Beacon itself.
